The Brewery Wastewater Challenge
Breweries produce wastewater with exceptionally high organic loads—BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) levels frequently range from 3,000 to 10,000 mg/L, far exceeding residential values and triggering municipal surcharge fees or compliance issues. Without effective treatment, surcharges and discharge restrictions can become a major operational and financial burden. Enereau’s nrPUR™ MBR system provides a compact, modular solution that delivers consistent, reliable results even under variable flows and loadings.
The Enereau Solution: nrPUR™ High-Strength MBR Systems.
Enereau’s nrPUR™ MBR is specifically designed to handle high-strength brewery wastewater with a compact footprint and low maintenance.
The system delivers over 98% BOD removal, producing final effluent typically under 5 mg/L for BOD, TSS, and TN making it ideal for safe discharge or water reuse. Its modular components are designed to fit within tight brewery footprints, enabling fast and flexible deployment. Low-energy ultrafiltration (UF) combined with automated backwash ensures robust performance with minimal operator intervention. To maintain membrane integrity and optimize throughput, continuous air scouring actively controls biofilm buildup, ensuring reliable operation even under high-strength, variable-flow conditions.
In addition to full scale on-site wastewater treatment Enereau also supplies pre- and post-treatment options. These include pH adjustment, fine screening, flotation, as well as polishing steps like UV disinfection and carbon filtration. These modular, stand-alone units can either support municipal discharge targets or form a part of a complete system.
