Retrofits for Legacy Systems

When membrane replacement alone isn’t enough, Enereau offers engineered retrofits that modernize your entire treatment system. We evaluate existing racks, tanks, and controls and design modular upgrades to meet your current and future needs—without requiring a full rebuild. Our nrPUR™ MBR (Membrane BioReactor) platform offers prefabricated filtration modules which can easily integrate into existing plants and control systems.

Case Study- Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) system to Membrane BioReactor (MBR) Retrofit

Enereau completed a retrofit at Long Bay Resort in the British Virgin Islands, converting a storm-damaged RBC system into a modern MBR using the modular nrPUR™ platform. The new system reused existing tankage, integrated prefabricated BioReactors and membrane modules, and was installed by on-site staff in under two weeks. Designed for energy efficiency and durability in a coastal environment, the upgraded plant now produces 25,000 USgpd of reuse-quality effluent for landscape irrigation within a compact footprint.

Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) to Membrane BioReactor (MBR) Retrofit

A medical university in St. Kitts was expanding and had outgrown its onsite Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) wastewater plant, which was over capacity and unable to meet discharge targets. To address this, Enereau retrofitted the system using its modular nrPUR™ Membrane BioReactor (MBR) platform. The upgrade involved repurposing existing tankage and integrating high-efficiency ultrafiltration membranes through prefabricated modules and flexible cassettes. This conversion to an MBR system allowed the university to increase treatment capacity, achieve reuse-quality effluent, and reduce maintenance and capital costs—all within the existing plant footprint.

The nrPUR™ MBR Technology

​The nrPUR™ Membrane platform is a low-energy, self-cleaning ultrafiltration (UF) system for the treatment of low- to high-strength wastewater to high-quality discharge or reuse standards. The technology is highly flexible and suitable for both domestic and industrial wastewater. Configured around a series of modular process building blocks, nrPUR™ platform offers unparalleled flexibility and reliability for wastewater treatment on wastewater streams from 300 mg/L to 10,000 mg/L, producing effective TSS & BOD5 reduction of >98%, safe, reuse-quality water. When combined with our advanced polishing technologies the nrPUR™ MBR system can treat trace micro pollutants (e.g. Phosphorus, Ammonia, etc) to safe discharge levels.
